Penplas family centre opened its doors in 2003. The centre is a Gwalia property consisting of two two-bedroom flats, the demand for services at the centre was high and in 2005 Gwalia converted the neighbouring two bedroom flats and reconstructed the family centre to allow more space to develop services for the community. The centre has served the community of Penplas, Portmead and Blaenymaes well but as times have changed demand for our services have risen and we again started to outgrow the family centre. This made us look to the community and rent space from the local schools and St Teilo's Church.
Working together Faith in Families and St Teilos church came up with a plan to renovate St Teilos church into a multi-purpose family centre that will be able to house the community in a way that the family centre was struggling too. Working with the community and a number of funders we successfully gained one million pounds worth of funding to develop the project. Fast forward five years and this May we were given the keys to our brand new centre based within St Teilo's church.
Teilos Community Cwtch is a real community hub, we have been inundated with new families, children, young people and adults who are excited to see what we can offer them, we have partner agencies who want to get involved with in the project and we have a staff team that are thrilled that finally after all the promises we can finally do what we do best and support our community to be the best that it can be. The possibilities for Teilos Community Cwtch are endless and we are very excited for our new future!
